A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
