Alleged Stalker Questioned: 'But What If I Might Be Madeleine?'

A woman accused with stalking Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, 24, who a jury heard has persistently asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the court heard communication data and data retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most covered missing child cases and remains unsolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

Another recorded message, shared in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I believe."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "What if there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Isn't that crucial for you?"

"I don't want money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I simply desire to know," she added.

The jury was told that by means of electronic messages, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a bid to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with the police force who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the phone records.

On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a message on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I will persist and I plan to establish my claim."

The court learned the co-defendant established a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in that area in that winter.

Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated through messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the months leading up to the visit to that location, the county, in December 2024.

The court was told correspondence between the two defendants, in that autumn, considering attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from utensils at a restaurant.

"We have to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the visit to their house, the defendant sent a communication which expressed: "We're currently positioned adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our headlights off like detectives. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."
