Electronic Arts Tackles The Sims 4 Corrupted Saves: "We Promise Transparency"
Recently, players of the popular life simulation game have encountered significant issues with corrupted save files after a game update. In response, the developer unveiled a comprehensive plan in September, detailing the approach to resolve the biggest bugs.
Pinpointing the Root Causes
Following thorough investigation, the team identified two primary causes for the corrupted saves. Firstly, temporary files—critical for smooth gameplay—are vanishing unexpectedly, resulting in total save file loss. Secondly, a separate issue with lot-specific data is stuck players in endless loading screens, possibly caused by specific construction habits like super-stuffed lots, with or without modifications.
Immediate Solutions and Precautions
To combat the problem of overstuffed lots, an upcoming patch will deactivate for now the Residential Rental Unit cheat. This feature enables players to place numerous Rental Units on Residential lots.
"We’re removing the Residential Rental Unit cheat in an upcoming update, as a safety measure while broader fixes are developed," the studio explained. "Although we value player agency highly, to err on the side of safety, this action is needed to reduce its possible harm."
However, many players are experiencing the infinite load and save corruption without using the cheat, leading ongoing investigation into save bloat and associated problems.

In a recent update, the publisher revealed that they have created a custom Python script that helps in pulling, examining, and condensing player save information provided by the community.
