The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a girl containing several human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct personas, each with their own fears and drives. These entities can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves managing the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have large flowers growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity standing could be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
