The Reform UK leader Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by telling children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on the UK education system, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and now, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – truly monumental. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned through education, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. It offers these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
