Points leader Oscar Piastri has revealed he gained "important insights on risk assessment" following his challenging round at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The McLaren competitor experienced a first-lap retirement following a jump start that sent him to the rear of the grid. This incident followed further troubles during the qualifying session and practice runs.
McLaren colleague Norris closed the distance in the championship battle to just 25 points, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen sits 69 points behind entering this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix after winning both in the previous two races.
"We cannot afford weekends like Baku and we recognize such results are unacceptable," the driver commented.
"Personally, there were some difficult lessons but as a team we spotted several opportunities to improve our approach. This awareness proves vitally important."

The Australian driver admitted he had "pushed too hard" during Azerbaijan qualifying and recognized the race incident was "complicated to immediately process given the start procedure events".
"These events provided valuable insights about enhancing my reaction and essentially educated me about risk evaluation," he continued. "Nothing dramatic are necessary or will be introduced."
"During most of the Grand Prix events, my methodology has proven effective. By focusing on successful elements, good outcomes will persist. No major overhaul - I'm just chalking it up to mistakes."
Championship Battle Intensifies
Piastri's teammate stated that Max Verstappen "truly constitutes a championship threat" with seven events left, reinforcing views earlier shared by McLaren boss Andrea Stella.
Verstappen's recent victory was his fourth of the 2024 campaign, while the Australian has taken seven victories and his teammate has collected five successes.
Norris emphasized that the Red Bull competitor had consistently posed a greater challenge to the team than generally perceived.
"Looking back to the early races, they were challenging us during the initial six races, fighting over the individual title," he detailed. "After introducing upgrade package, we made improvements."
"In recent rounds, their developments have seemingly leveled the playing field. We still enter every event with winning ambitions and dominance aspirations."
"The competition including Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull have closed the gap lately, so we expect intense battles, particularly against these opponents."
Team Title Approaching Conclusion
The British team are virtually assured to claim the team title this weekend - they will mathematically clinch the crown provided Mercedes fail to surpass them by 31 points, or the Italian squad by 35 points.
